Dean's Greeting

2021 marks the 60th anniversary of the College of Engineering, formerly known as the College of Science and Engineering, National Chung Hsing University. With the great efforts of former deans and all faculty members, the College of Engineering has established five departments and two graduate institutes and provided an Undergraduate Program of Intellectual Creativity Engineering. The five departments include the Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Department of Environmental Engineering, Department of Chemical Engineering, and Department of Materials Science and Engineering. The graduate institutes consist of the Graduate Institute of Precision Engineering and the Graduate Institute of Biomedical Engineering. Currently, the College is home to 117 faculty members and over 2,700 students. Tens of thousands of alumni have made significant contributions in a myriad of engineering fields and serve as important figures in government, academic institutions, and business in Taiwan and overseas.

Driven by the vision of developing into a world-class engineering college, the College attaches importance to both teaching and research. The educational objective of the College is to nourish advanced technology talents with engineering expertise and capabilities to integrate and innovate and to create an international worldview to facilitate sustainable industrial development and enhance the quality of human life. Our graduates have acquired three core competencies, namely engineering expertise and practical skills, innovation and integration skills, and communication and teamwork skills. Under the context of volatile international conditions and climate crisis, nations in the world are taking energy saving, carbon reduction, and environmental sustainability as policy guidelines, intending to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050. The research and innovation in all engineering fields of the College are all geared towards this common goal of humankind. In terms of domestic industrial innovation, the 5+2 Industrial Innovation Plan, including Smart Machinery, Asian Silicon Valley, Green Energy, Biomedical, Defense, New Agriculture, and Circular Economy, serves as a driving force for the next generation of industrial growth in Taiwan. The seven major industries are in line with the direction set by the College of Engineering, providing a great opportunity for the College's development.

Facing the challenges of global higher education and technological competition, the College is working in tandem with all faculty members and students to promote bilingual education to enhance students' international competitiveness. To strive for the sustainable development of the earth, the College of Engineering aligns with the national 5+2 Innovative Industries Plan and global development trends, improves the R&D capability and academic leadership by integrating the resources of all departments, and forming cross-departmental and cross-field collaborative teams.
